Accounting for Your Small Business: Tax Tools to Help You Succeed

If you own a small business you may wear many hats, including CEO, marketer, technician, accountant, and customer service provider. You don’t need to master tax accounting to be successful, but knowing some basics can help you meet your filing obligations and stay out of trouble.

The IRS offers a Small Business and Self-Employed Tax Center to guide you through major growth stages and milestones such as beginning, operating and closing a business.

Use the Tax Calendar (also available in Spanish) to avoid missing important deadlines. Send reminders to your email inbox and install the “CalendarConnector” tool to access events from your desktop, even if you’re offline. The calendar updates automatically.

Participate in small business workshops, meetings and seminars throughout the country, in English and Spanish. Click on your state to find out what’s taking place near you.

No time to attend a seminar? Review online learning options on the IRS Video Portal. If you don’t see what you need among the recent releases, search the complete list in “All Presentations.”

Videos are even available on how to use the calendar and avoid common small business tax mistakes.
